Mary Lois Carson (nee Bent)

1916- 2008 

On Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Tabor Home in Morden, MB, Mary Carson, aged 92 years formerly of Thornhill district went to her eternal rest. 

She leaves to mourn her passing, daughters Sharon McCullough of Winnipeg and Pat (Randy) Neuman of Morden, their respective families, and the family of daughter Betty Hamm (deceased).  They, and sisters Helen and Shirley, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, Bill McCullough, and Harvey and Anne Hamm remember Mary with love and affection. 

Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joe Carson in 1994, and daughters, Betty in 1996 and Joan in infancy. 

Mary was born in 1916 at the family farm near Lauder, MB, to parents Gesner and Maizie Bent.  She had four sisters.  Mary went to school at Truro and Lauder.  She took her teacher training in Brandon and taught for several years.  She met her future husband, Joe Carson, while she was teaching at Elam School south of Thornhill. Mary and Joe farmed near Thornhill.  They moved to 9th Street in Morden when they retired.  Mary's first concern was her family and her work on the farm. She was a strong supporter of community organizations and activities.  Music was a vital part of Mary's life and she volunteered many hours in its preparation and performance.  She played the organ at her church from the time she was a young woman, then at Thornhill United Church, St. Paul's United Church, and at Wiebe Funeral Chapel.  She provided music at a variety of functions including programs at Tabor Home.  Mary loved sports and she greatly enjoyed participating in tennis, bowling, and curling. 

Funeral service was held on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's United Church with Jeanette Brigit officiating.  Pallbearers were Brian Andrew, Dennis Carson, Harvey Hamm, Ryan Reichert, Murray Seymour and Raymond White.  Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery.
