John Wiebe
1961 – 2008
John Wiebe was born on May 11, 1961 to Henry and Anna Wiebe in Chihuahua Mexico. John had six brothers and six sisters growing up. At the age of seventeen he moved with his family to Ontario, Canada. Sometime later, the family moved to Manitoba where John met the love of his life. The family again moved back to Ontario. Reluctantly John went along, but soon managed to buy his own car to come back to Marge.
John was baptized upon the confession of his faith in the spring of 1984. After five years of dating, John and Marge married on July 22nd, 1984.
In 1988, the Lord blessed them with their firstborn son, Andy, who lived a short life of twenty-two hours. Blessed to them were three more beautiful children, Randy on December 15th'1989, Devon on April 18th'1992 and Nicole on November 29th' 1996.
John was gifted with a lot of talent and his mindset was that "if you set your mind to it you can do it". He excelled at everything he did, whether it was working for others or pursuing something on his own. John was always known for giving a helping hand for whoever needed it. He did not know the word "no" even when it came to telemarketers. He couldn't refuse; he would rather change his phone number.
In 1997, Marge had a dream of owning her own restaurant but at that time John had no interest. There again he believed in his wife and couldn't turn her down. Little did he know that he would build many lifelong friendships and he soon came to enjoy it. Still his passion was building. In 2007, building became difficult because of discomfort in his knees. In November, he reluctantly went to see a doctor about his pain. On March 9th 2008, John was admitted into Boundary Trails Health Centre and on the 12th they received the unfortunate news that he had terminal cancer. That same day he was released and spent the rest of his time at home. The family and friends have shared many special moments together. John strongly believed that if God brought you to it, he would see you through it. Whenever anyone asked if there was anything they could do, his request was always for prayer support. He remained strong in his faith until the end.
With family by his side, he went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 19th, 2008. He leaves to mourn his best friend and loving wife Marge, one daughter, two sons, and many family and friends. He was predeceased by one son in infancy, his mother, one brother, one sister, three brothers-in-law and one nephew.
Funeral service was held on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Winkler Sommerfeld Mennonite Church with Bishop Dave Wiebe officiating. Interment took place at Westridge Memorial Gardens in Winkler.
We as family would like to thank the many, many people who have helped us through this difficult time. A special thanks to Dr. Woelk and Tina Bueckert for their medical support in our home, as well as to Bishop Dave Wiebe and Reverend Abe Heppner for officiating and for spiritual encouragement.
