Peter C. Nickel
1926 – 2008
On Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Peter Nickel aged 82 years of Winkler, MB formerly of the Grossweide and Thames school districts passed away peacefully after being diagnosed with a brain tumor January 15, 2008.
He was born to Cornelius and Helena (nee Buhler) Nickel on January 11, 1926 at Aberdeen, SK. He was baptized upon confession of his faith in Jesus Christ on June 15, 1946 by Bishop Epp. In 1947, his family moved to Manitoba.
He married Eva Dueck of Grimsby school district on June 16, 1949. The first year he worked for a farmer in the Weidenfield area. In 1950, they bought a farm of their own where they enjoyed working together. Although the crops were not always what he hoped for, he never complained.
In 1989, they moved to Winkler. After retirement, he volunteered at Salem Home for 15 years. He felt blessed being able to work with the staff and helping residents which he did until about 4 months before his passing. He also enjoyed going for coffee where he made many friends.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Eva (nee Dueck) of Winkler; 4 daughters, Helen Nickel, Eva Nickel, Mary and Abe Wall, Tina Nickel all of Winkler; 2 sons, Peter and Agnes Nickel of Blumenfeld, Henry and Betty Nickel of Plum Coulee; 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral service was held on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Reinland Mennonite Church in Winkler with Rev. David Friesen. Interment took place at Schoenthal Cemetery.
