klassen dave2.jpgOn Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, David N. Klassen, age 84 of Winkler, formerly of Plumas, MB, passed away peacefully and entered into the presence of his Lord.

Dad was born in the Plum Coulee area on January 9, 1924 to Jacob and Aganetha Klassen.  He’s the youngest, with his twin sister, Helen, in a family of 12 which included 10 boys and 2 girls.  The family lived in a number of places but most of his time growing up was spent in Blumenfeld.

Dad was a Conscientious Objector during World War II and worked in lumber camps in Ontario and on dairy farms in St. Norbert and Manitou.  He loved to share these stories.

Dad was baptized on March 28, 1947 upon confession of his faith at the Reinland Sommerfelder Church.

He married Susan Heide on December 10, 1950.  Mom and Dad were blessed with 3 children, Jake, Susan and Nettie.  They started their family in MacGregor and moved to Schoenwiese to establish a dairy farm.  They sold this farm and moved to Plumas in 1978 where they changed their focus to grain farming.  During their time in Plumas the family grew to include 7 grandchildren who enjoyed going to Grandma and Grandpa’s farm.

We have many memories of Dad including visits to the farm, his sense of humor, his storytelling, his love for his family, his acceptance of others, his Bible, and his increasing desire to go to heaven.

He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Susan: 2 daughters, Susan and Cornie Enns of Winkler, Nettie and Ray Reimer of Steinbach; 5 granddaughters, Vic and Charissa Neufeld, Joey and Jaclyn Stoesz, Richard and Stephanie Wiebe, Jared and Jaymi Blatz, and Janessa Reimer; 1 great grandson, Seth Logan Neufeld.

He was predeceased by one son, Jake on January 28, 1995, and two grandchildren, Rachel and Jonathon Klassen on February 16, 1988.

Funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 2:00 pm at the German Old Colony Mennonite Church in Hochfeld.  Interment followed at the Church Cemetery.

The family would like to thank friends for the flowers, visits, food and prayer support during this time.

Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler in care of arrangements.
