Elizabeth Dyck

Elizabeth Dyck (nee Froese)

1932 - 2008

Dyck, Elizabeth2.jpgOn Tuesday June 17, 2008 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Elizabeth Dyck aged 75 years of Winkler, MB formerly of Calgary, AB went to be with her Lord and Saviour having lost her battle to cancer.

Mom was born on June 30, 1932 at Chortitz in the home that she would grow up   in.  She was the seventh child in a family of 10 children and the daughter to Johan and Elizabeth (nee Schellenberg).  Mom attended the Chortitz School and upon confession of her faith, was baptized at the Old Colony Church in Chortitz.

On July 5, 1953, Elizabeth (Lil) Froese and Abe Dyck were united in marriage.  They lived in the Portage La Prairie area for a short while and then moved to a farm at Elm Creek (Wingham) where mom worked hard to raise five children.  During this time, dad worked at the Southport Air Base and farmed at the same time.  They had a small dairy operation and there was never a shortage of work, especially when dad broke both arms in a farming accident and mom needed to look after him, along with her other chores.  Or when one of her children developed kidney failure and later on went to receive a new kidney donated by his brother, she was the one who stepped in and provided the much needed care that was required.  They stayed here until retirement took them west to Alberta where they lived for the next 20 years.  Even though she had her own health issues, mom cared for and attended to dad during his long battle with cancer.  Dad passed away and mom stayed in Calgary for another 2 years and then moved to Garden Park Estates in Winkler where she had been for the last 4 years.

She leaves to mourn 5 children: Brian and Florence of Winkler, John and Diane of Winkler, Beth and Tom Schweitzer of Calgary, AB, Peter Dyck of Winnipeg, Jake and Colleen of Portage La Prairie; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Tina Wolfe and Mary Froese.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Abe in 2002; her parents, Johan and Elizabeth Froese; 3 sisters and 4 brothers.

Funeral service was held on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at 2:30 pm at Grace Mennonite Church with Rev. Gerald Neufeld and Rev. Herb Franz officiating.  Interment followed at Winkler Cemetery.

Mom will be deeply missed.

Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler in care of arrangements.
