Elizabeth Friesen.jpgWith two of her daughters at her side, Elizabeth Friesen of Salem Home, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on October 9, 2007. Elizabeth passed away at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her husband Abram A. Friesen in 1975, two daughters, Kay (Enns) in 1995, Betty (Henry Unger) in 2006, and one son-in-law (Johnny Enns) in 1985.

Left to cherish her memory are her remaining children, Harry (Kristine), Edwin (Leona), Helen (Pete Fehr), Janice (Henry Tiessen), Carol (Jake Hamm), Larry (Jocelyn), and son-in-law Henry Unger.

She will also be remembered with great fondness by 28 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Also left to cherish her memory are five sisters and two brothers.

Elizabeth was born in Osterwick on November 13, 1912, the oldest child of Abram N. and Katherina Friesen. She grew up in the Wakeham District and in the Village of Reinland. As a young girl she was baptized upon confession of her faith in the Sommerfeld Church in Reinland. She and Abram were married in a double-wedding ceremony on July 5, 1931.

Elizabeth and Abram settled in the Village of Reinfeld where they raised their family of eight, and where Elizabeth remained until after Abram’s passing in 1975.

In 1977, Elizabeth moved to Rietze Avenue in Winkler, then downsized to an apartment on 2nd Street in 1997. From there, health issues made it necessary for her to move into Salem Home for her last three years on this earth. The Lord saw fit to take her to her Eternal Home on the morning of Tuesday, October 9, 2007.

Funeral service was held on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 11:00 am at Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church.  Interment followed at Reinfeld Cemetery.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who loved His appearing.”
– 2 Timothy 4:7-8
