On Thursday, February 22, 2007 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Mary Fehr (nee Elias) aged 71 years went to her eternal rest.

Mom was born March 28, 1935 to Peter and Sara Elias at Blumenfeld, MB.  She was the second daughter and the 10th child born to this family of 13 children.  She received her education at Blumenfeld School and along side her mom, developed a real interest in the many household duties and gardening.

She was baptized May 21, 1956 by Alt Jacob Froese at the Blumenfeld Old Colony Church.  Mom and dad were married November 23, 1958 and moved to Rosengart.  Here they farmed for 44 years and raised their 3 children, David, Sara and Kathy.  Together, they worked hard to make ends meet.  The family was extended when David married Nancy Rempel and Sara married Dennis Stoesz.  Mary was also blessed with twin grandsons, Tyler and Thomas and a granddaughter, Olivia.

Mom took pleasure in gardening, canning and sharing the abundance with family and neighbors.  Harvest season was her favorite time of year and she especially enjoyed bringing dad his meals on the field.  She cherished her home and this was evident in how she cared for it.  She loved to prepare meals and share them with family and friends.  Her home-baked buns and cherry moos were the best and will be missed.

Mary loved children and spent many hours taking care of the neighbors’ children who all knew her as Taunte Marie.  In her later years, she babysat her own grandchildren which she considered a privilege.

With dad being in the ministry, they spent a lot of time visiting others which resulted in many new friendships.

Eventually, mom faced some challenges with her health.  In 1995, she miraculously survived a bleeding ulcer which required surgery.  In 2002, she was hospitalized with double pneumonia.  In 2006, she was diagnosed with kidney cancer which required the removal of her left kidney.  This was successful surgery and mom did quite well after this.  On February 11, 2007, mom suffered a massive stroke and was rushed to the hospital.  She was not expected to last more than a day.  Her condition stabilized which gave the family 11 special days to spend with her.  Peacefully, surrounded by family on February 22 at 11:20 am mom went to her eternal rest.

Mom taught us how to live and has left us with a legacy of love full of special memories that we will cherish forever.

She leaves to mourn her passing 2 daughters, Sara and Dennis Stoesz of Morden and Kathy Fehr of Rosengart; 1 son, David and Nancy Fehr of Haskett; 3 grandchildren; 2 sisters and 6 brothers.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rev. David Fehr (2003); her parents; 1 sister; 3 brothers; 3 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law.

Funeral service was held on Monday, February 26, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Reinland Mennonite Church, Winkler with Bishop William Friesen officiating.  Interment followed at Rosengart Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bessie, Dr. Woelk and the nurses for the care provided to mom during her brief stay.  We would also like to thank family and friends for their prayers and support during this time.  A special thank you to those who came and stayed with mom during the last week.

Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler in care of arrangements.
