Susana Rempel

1930 - 2006

rempel2.jpgPeacefully, surrounded by her family, Susana Rempel, age 75, passed away at the Boundary Trails Hospital in Winkler on July 19, 2006.

Susana was born to Heinrich and Sara (nee Dyck) Froese on August 19, 1930 in Blumenort, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was baptized upon her confession of faith on June 7, 1949. Mom and dad were married on September 4, 1949 and moved to Canada in January 1966. They were blessed with almost 57 years of life together.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Gerhard E. Rempel of Winkler, 6 daughters Agatha (Neil) Friesen of Winnipeg, Helen (Peter) Friesen of Winnipeg, Sara (Frank) Penner of Mexico, Susan (David) Letkemann of Winnipeg, Tina (Gerald) Barkman of Altona, Margo (Arnie) Klassen of Winkler, 3 sons George (Betty) Rempel of Landmark, Henry (Darlene) Rempel of Winnipeg, John (Janelle) Rempel of Morden, 24 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters and 2 half-sisters.

She was predeceased by her parents and 1 son-in-law, Glen Dueck (1979).

Mom’s relationship to Christ her Lord was always important to her. She lived a sacrificial life dedicated to God and to her family. The assurance of salvation was of utmost importance to her – not only for herself but for those she loved. She has long been very thankful for the friendships and the new insights she gained through their various home bible study groups, especially the latest group. She often referred to this group as her “house church”, especially when she was not well enough to attend Church in the traditional setting.

Much of her time was spent in prayer – not only while she worked but also during her illness later in life. Although the road mom traveled was not always an easy one, she always looked on the brighter side of life – focusing on the positive instead of the hurdles in the way. On this earth she lived in the Lord, and now she has gone to be with the Lord.

We often marveled at her hands – the various ways she used them to be a blessing to others. She used her hands to show her love for her family – giving tender warm hugs, sewing, embroidering, quilting, and creating delicious foods. In her career as a professional cook, she worked at the Mennonite Collegiate Institute in the mid 1970’s and served in the same capacity at the Salem Home in Winkler from 1975 to 1980. She spent many years volunteering in Church food committees, spent countless hours quilting for others and volunteering at the MCC Thrift Shop in Aylmer, Ontario.

Our mom will be remembered in a special way for her generosity and hospitality, her special handmade thank-you gifts, her many quilts and her kind, caring nature.

A special thanks to Dr. Reyneke and the nursing staff of the Boundary Trails Hospital for the special way they cared for mom during these past years.
