Helen “Doreen” Hildebrand (nee Loewen)

1935 – 2005

Hildebrand, Doreen.jpgSuddenly, on Monday, June 6, 2005 at her residence in Winkler, Helen “Doreen” Hildebrand (nee Loewen), aged 69 years, of Winkler, MB formerly of Kronsgart, MB went to her eternal rest.

Doreen was born in the Winkler district on August 15, 1935 to Peter & Mary Loewen. At the age of 11 the family relocated to the Carman area. She was baptized and joined the Carman Mennonite Church. On

September 2, 1956 she married John Hildebrand from Kronsgart. The first winter of marriage was spent in Winkler. They then moved to the Kronsgart area and lived on the farm for the next 36 years. During this time they had three children, Karen who died in infancy, Reynold and Janet. In 1992 they moved to Winkler where they resided until the present.

Mom, Grandma was a kind and loving woman who enjoyed her family and friends to the fullest. In these last years she found handwork difficult due to the arthritis in her hands but this did not slow her down. She loved music and spent many an evening playing her favorite songs and hymns on the piano. Her grandchildren  were a great joy in her life and she loved spending time with them reading stories, “playing farm”, going to sport games, etc. Her home was filled with laughter; many an evening entertaining and playing games with friends.  They attended and became members at the Grace Mennonite Church, Winkler.

She leaves to mourn her passing her beloved husband, John Hildebrand of Winkler; 1 daughter; Janet and Ken Thiessen and their children, Jenna, Ryan and Evan of Winnipeg; 1 son, Reynold and Marian Hildebrand and their children, Karen, Mark and Jeremy of Winkler; as well as 2 sisters.

She was predeceased by 1 daughter, Karen Joan in infancy (1960) and 1 grandson, Richard Paul Thiessen (2004).

We look forward to the day we meet again.

Funeral service was held on Friday, June 10, 2005 at 2:00pm at the Grace Mennonite Church in Winkler with Rev. Herb Franz officiating. Interment followed at Winkler Cemetery.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Doreen’s memory to the Mennonite Central Committee (M.C.C.) Box 1774 Winkler, MB R6W 4B6.
