Peter Penner

1918 – 2005

Penner, PeterOval.jpgOn Saturday, July 16, 2005 at 2:35 am at Dad peacefully went to be with his personal Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ.  He reached the age of 86 years and 10 months.

Dad was born in Wymark, SK in the municipality of Swift current on September 16, 1918.  He moved to Mexico in 1922 as the family joined the trek to Mexico settling in Neuanlage.  In 1931, he moved with his parents to Santa Clara Mennonite settlement, where they farmed for 8 years.  Their next move was to Canada in 1939, first to the village of Chortitz.  Dad had many years working for different farmers providing money for the family.  On June 1, 1941, Dad was baptized by Bishop Jacob Froese in the Old Colony Church in Chortitz.  On September 30, 1948, Dad married Justina Fehr in the Rudnerweider church in Reinland.  Dad and Mom farmed in the Haskett area and raised a family of three sons and five daughters.  Mom and Dad retired to Winkler in October 1986.  They enjoyed some of their golden years spending more time with family and friends.  Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife, on February 13, 2001.  They were married for 52 years.  After mom’s passing, life was lonely and Dad’s health deteriorated.  He stayed in his home with home care.  He moved to Salem Home in January 2003 where he was very well cared for and was spiritually fulfilled.  Dad was a thankful person.  He appreciated visits of his family and friends.  He was also forever grateful for the splendid care that the staff at Salem provided for him these last few years.

Dad was an individual that believed in prayer and was concerned that all his family would follow Christ.  He showed us that Church, worship, prayer and Bible reading was not to be taken lightly.

Dad is survived by daughter, Marge and husband Percy Doell of Winkler, son Jake and wife Shirley of Winkler, daughter, MaryAnne and husband John Nikkel of Gardenton, son Henry and wife Joanne of Steinbach, daughter Lena and husband Isaac Bueckert of Rainy River ON, daughter Agnes and husband Mark Betke of Minnedosa, MB, daughter Tina and husband Robert Hiebert of Manitou; 22 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; 4 sisters and 6 brothers.

He was predeceased by his wife, Justina (nee Fehr) on February 13, 2001 and son, Peter on August 19, 1980; his father, Jacob A. Penner on July 28, 1966 and his mother, Anna on July 24, 1923.

Although Dad suffered and was waiting to go home to his heavenly Father, his passing will leave a great emptiness in all of our lives, but now is joined with Mom who he missed so much.

“I fought the good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge shall give me at that day and not to me only but to all those that love his appearing.”
2 Timothy 4:7&8.
