Henry M. Penner

1927 – 2005

Penner, Henry.jpgMr. Henry M. Penner was born in Mexico on April 20, 1027 to Jacob A. and Helena Penner.  On May 17, 1948, Dad was baptized upon confession of his faith.

Dad married Margaret Klassen on March 23, 1952 in the Blumenfeld Old Colony Church.  The first winter after they were married, Dad and Mom moved to B.C. to work in a logging camp.  After that, they lived in Morden for 10 years where Dad worked for the Krushels.  They moved on to Blumenfeld for 42 years.  For 21 of these years, Dad and Mom and their family operated a dairy farm.  In February of 2002, Mom passed away of cancer and shortly thereafter, Dad moved to Winkler where he lived until his passing.

Many times, especially at family gatherings, Dad would share how important it was to be right with God and to live for Him and that without God we are nothing and can do nothing.

July of 2003, Dad was diagnosed with a blood disorder.  In October 2003, it was confirmed that he had pre-leukemia and in July of 2005 his condition worsened to acute leukemia.  At this point, he had frequent hospital stays.

On September 14, Dad was admitted to the hospital for the last time.  During his stay, we were able to communicate with him until the last day at noon.  This was a very meaningful time to us as a family.  He had a desire to go home to work in his garden one last time but God chose an eternal home for him.  Dad passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 4 days at the Boundary Trails Health Centre.

Dad went to be with the Lord where he longed to be and will be greatly missed.  The family thanks Dr. Booey and the nurses of the Boundary Trails Health Centre and Wiebe Funeral Home.

He leaves to mourn his passing 5 children; four sons and one daughter; 7 grandchildren; Henry of “Our Home” in Winkler, Abe and Kathy of Winkler and their children, Crystal and Cornie Zacharias, Rodney, Sylvia and Terry; Eva and John Klassen of Blumstein and their children Carolyn, Stephanie and Darryl; John and Lois of Blumenfeld; George, of Winkler; 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

He was predeceased by his wife as well as 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral service was held on September 28, 2005 at 2:00 pm at the Zion Mennonite Church in Schanzenfeld with Rev. Bill Thiessen and Rev. Peter Wiebe officiating.  Interment followed at the Blumenfeld Cemetery.

Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler in care of arrangements.
