Bernhard “Ben” Penner

1916 – 2005

Penner, Ben copy.jpgOn Sunday, July 17, 2005 at the Morris General Hospital, it pleased the Heavenly Father to take unto Himself our beloved husband, brother-in-law and uncle Bernhard Penner, aged 89 years, of Morris, MB formerly of Morden and Tolstoi, MB.

Bernhard was born to Ben and Margaret Penner on March 23, 1916 in the province of Saskatchewan in the village of Blumenthal.  Ben was predeceased at the age of 2 by his father and later his mother Margaret; 2 sisters Margaret and Mary and 2 brothers Pete and John.  Ben’s mother and siblings moved to the province of Manitoba and resided in the village of Blumenort 4 miles west of the town of Gretna.  Ben’s mother’s brother, Peter Janzen lived in Gretna and assisted her with housing and food.

Ben grew up in Blumennort and on July 21. 1939 married Betty Thiessen in holy matrimony and in the year 1989 was predeceased by their only child Gloria whom they loved dearly.

He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Betty (nee Thiessen) of Morris; 5 sisters-in-law, Margaret Thiessen, Margaret Wiebe, Anne Ginter, Elizabeth Penner and Helen Penner; 1 brother-in-law Abe Thiessen and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at 2:00 pm at the Morden Alliance Church in Morden with Pastor Randy Smart officiating.  Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery.

We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the nursing staff at the Morris Hospital and also the nursing staff at the Boundary Trails Health Centre.
