Shirley Martindale8X10.jpgPeacefully, after a ten year struggle with Alzheimers, Mom passed away at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Wednesday, August 4, 2004. Mom was born in the family home in Darlingford on October 4, 1928, the youngest in the family of John C. and Arabell Smith.

She attended school in Darlingford and during the war years earned her pin from the Red Cross for the knitting she did for parcels sent overseas to the soldiers stationed there. After the war she met a dashing young veteran from Thornhill and they soon married and raised a family of four together.

Mom was a member of the Victoria Rebekah Lodge for many years where she made many friends. She enjoyed the lodge and was very proud of the work they did.

Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Wilfred (Buff), in 2003, son Grant in 1984, 5 great-grandchildren, parents J.C. and Arabell Smith, brothers Bill, Frank, Grant and Alex, sister Edythe Bradley and friend Morley Wakelin. She is survived by daughter-in-law Susan (Grant) and their children, Laurie, Kern, Shea and Patrick, daughter Barbara Warkentin (Ken) and their children Janice and Dwayne, daughter Donna and her children Jodi, Jarret and Jordan, son William (Annie), and their son Travis and his children Catherine and Wes and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister Florence Lindsay of Morden, sisters-in-law Velma Angers of Morden and Sybil (Ian) James of White Rock, BC and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at the Zion Calvin United Church, Darlingford at 2:00pm with Rev. Doug Craig officiating. Interment followed at Knightcot Cemetery.
