Elden Funk

Elden Funk

1928 – 2004

Edwin Funk.jpgPeacefully, on Friday, September 10, 2004, Elden Funk passed away at his residence at the age of 76. Elden Funk was born in Mennon, Saskatchewan on June 11, 1928.

In 1932 with his parents and brother, Elden moved to Northvale, Saskatchewan when he was 4 years old.

Elden received his elementary education in Northvale School. It was at this school that Evangelical services were held, and Elden received Christ as his Saviour as he prayed with his mother.

At 11 or 12 years of age he already hauled logs from the bush for Dad’s sawmill. He worked hard through his teen years. He would walk beside the sleigh load of cordwood as they hauled it 13 miles to the train station at Mullingar. On the way back they could ride.

In 1946 at the age of 18 Elden moved to Edrans, Manitoba with his parents. There he helped his dad on the farm. He was baptized on the confession of his faith at the Gladstone Bergthaler Church.

He was privileged to spend 4 winters studying at Elim Bible School in Altona. In spring, summer, and fall he worked on Dad’s farm or for neighbours.

On October 4, 1952 Elden married Edna Neufeld at Mayfeld Church. To this union were born two sons and four daughters.

September 19, 1955 he completed his high school education at the MCI in Gretna and continued on to complete his studies for his teaching degree. He spent 15 years teaching in various communities in Manitoba. In 1973 he moved to Winkler and began a new career at Salem as an orderly. Elden worked at Salem for 19 years. He also worked for Home Care and continued until the year 2000.

During the last 4 years his health has gradually decreased. He never complained but always desired to serve the Lord in whatever capacity he could. He was a godly man, a man of prayer, and set a Christian example for his family.

Mourning his passing are his beloved wife Edna, son Leonard (Berverly) Funk, daughters Louise (John) Schmidt, Marlene (John) Klassen, Eleanor (Jake) Wall, Esther (Wayne) Warkentin, and son Darrell (Julie) Funk, 16 grandchildren, predeceased by one grandson. Also survived by one brother Cornie (Agatha), two sisters Leona and Verna, 3 brother-in-laws Henry (Hannah) Neufeld, Cliff Neufeld, and Herman (Lorraine) Neufeld and many nieces and nephews.

We do not mourn as those who have no hope.

“Our hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus blood and righteousness”

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at 2:00 pm at the Bethel Bergthaler Mennonite Church, Winkler.
