Martin Penner.jpgOn Thursday, July 1, 2004 at the Boundary Trails Health Centre, Martin M. Penner, aged 87, of Schanzenfeld passed away peacefully with the family by his side.

He was born to Martin and Katherina Penner on March 25, 1917, in the village of Chortitz. He was the second oldest of 11 children, 1 girl and 10 boys. Martin was baptized May 12, 1940 by Jacob Froese in the Chortitz Old Colony Church. He fell in love with Agatha Hildebrand. They were married April 13, 1941 on the Hildebrand homestead by Rev. Jacob Unrau.

He farmed all his life and after he retired, Dad and Mom continued to stay on the farm where he resided until his passing on July 1, 2004.

To mourn his passing, he leaves his loving wife Agatha, 5 daughters, Elizabeth (Bill) Giesbrecht of Lockport, Catherine, Mary (Ed) Unrau, Helen, Anne (Drew) Ainsworth of Kenora, ON; 4 sons; Martin, George (Helen) of Winkler; Jake, Harry (Lynne) of Winkler. He also leaves to mourn 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers and their wives and 3 sister-in-laws.

Martin M. Penner was predeceased by his son-in-law Ed Unrau (April 5, 2004), 1 great-grandson, both his parents, 1 sister and 4 brothers.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Winkler Sommerfeld Mennonite Church at 2:00pm. Interment followed at Schanzenfeld Cemetery.
