Bernhard W.  Penner

1911 – 2004

BenPenner.jpgBernhard W. Penner was born to John B. and Helena Penner (nee Wiens) on April 19, 1911 in District 533, Plum Coulee.

He attended school in Plum Coulee. Grandpa was baptized upon the confession of his faith in 1929 in the Ruderweide Sommerfeld Church at the age of 18 years.

On July 27, 1930 he married Katharina Giesbrecht, with whom he shared 51 years. They were blessed with 3 children.

B.W. Penner enjoyed farming south of Plum Coulee (Grimsby) until 1975, when he and Katharina retired to Winkler, where he continued gardening hobbies.

Grandpa lived a healthy life until the last 8 months, when his health failed. He was diagnosed with cancer, and passed away peacefully on April 20, 2004 after 93 years and one day. He greatly appreciated the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Grandpa leaves to mourn one son, John B. Penner and his wife Tina, one daughter-in-law Tina Penner, and one son-in-law Bill Fehr and wife Anne. He is survived by his grandchildren Bernie and wife Val, Elizabeth and husband Tim, Linda and husband John, Travis, Herb and wife Val, Martha and husband Ron, Eunice and husband Henry, Janice and husband Robert, and James and wife Michelle. He also enjoyed his great-grandchildren Jeffrey, Jeremy, Joel, Amy, Kelsey, Jonathan, Jessica, Joshua, Brody, Bronson, Kimberly, Mark, Rachel, Chelsea, Kezra, Lauren, and Kyle.

B.W. Penner was also survived by one sister-in-law Helena Giesbrecht. He was predeceased by both parents in 1936, his wife in September 1981, on daughter (Hilda Fehr) in July 1981, one son (Henry Penner) in November 1992, and 3 grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Sunday, April 25, 2004 at the Sommerfeld Church, Winkler, MB at 2:00 pm. Interment followed at the Winkler Cemetery. Wiebe Funeral Home of Winkler in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at BTHC.

A special thank-you goes out to Dr. Lane and the staff at the BTHC medical unit. We as a family would like to thank-you all for your prayers and support, and to all those who took part in the service.
