Sarah Fehr Klassen (Nee Gerbrandt)
1917 – 2003
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Fehr/Klassen was born to her late parents, Klaus & Katherina Gerbrandt (nee Kehler), on June 1, 1917, in Lichtfeld, near Altona. Her early childhood was spent in Lichtfeld, moving to Rosetown, formerly Rosenort, when she was 11 years old. This is where she lived until her marriage.
She was baptize upon confession of her faith in the year 1934 by the late Bisho Peter Toews, and received as a member of the Sommerfeld Mennontie Church. Later, she, along with her husband John ib Aygyst 5, 1934, in her parents’ home. Officiating was the late Rev. Gerhard J. Froese. In August of 1984 they celebrated 50 years of sharing life’s joys and sorrows together. They were blessed with 3 sons and 5 daughters.
Their married life started in a one room house near Neuhorst. They built a new home on the same yard some years later. In 1958 they moved to Rosetown. Later they moved to the Gladstone area, then moved back to Rosetown in 1975. Her beloved husband John passed away on December 13, 1984.
On April 25, 1999, she married a dear friend since childhood, Peter Z. Klassen. They made their home in Winkler, where they made many new friends and were very involved in an ever-widening social circle. They spent many enjoyable hours playing their harmonicas together. They brought much joy to many people through their music.
They were married for 10 happy years. They were best friends and constant companions. Her greatest joy was when her children and grandchildren came to visit. She loved them all so much. She also enjoyed her flowers. Even in her later years when her eyesight failed, due to her diabetes, she would bring the flowers as close to her eyes as she could and enjoy their beauty. Her vision was very poor for many years, but she never seemed to complain about that. She just accepted it and managed as best she could, with much help from her faithful husband.
She developed many complications due to her diabetes which eventually led to her passing at 11:45 am on September 10, 2003.
She is also survived by her children: Annie & Peter Martens of Neuhorst; John & Sara of Schoenwiese; Leona & Don Peters of Plumas; Leonard & Margorie of Gladstone; Arthur & Wendy of Plumas; Florence & Aynar of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Beth of Victoria, B.C.; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 3 step-children: Lawrence & Mathilda, Ruth & John, and ALvina & Ken and their families.
