Reverend David M. Fehr
1931 – 2003
Dad was born December 4, 1931 to Johan and Maria Fehr at Roseville, MB. He was the third son and the sixth child born to this family of ten children.
Roseville Scholl was where he received his education and alongside with his Dad, he developed a real interest in farming, which was planted rather deeply and remained strong right until his last days in the hospital.
Dad was baptized June 9, 1954 by Alt. Peter Friesen at the Reinland Sommerfeld Church.
Dad married mom (Mary Elias of Blumenfeld) on November 23, 1958 and they moved to the village of Rosengart. This is where they raised their three children, David, Sara and Kathy. Their family was extended when David Married Nancy Rempel in 1988 and Sara married Dennis Stoesz in 1987. They were also blessed with twin grandsons, Tyler David and Thomas Daniel who were born December 4, 1999, to Dave and Nancy, exactly on Dad’s 68th birthday. The twins touched Dad’s life in a very special way for 3 short years, even when Dad was suffering in the hospital, he would wait to hear the footsteps of the twins coming down the hospital hall.
Mom and dad’s 44 years together were spent farming and Dad’s love and interest for farming was evident in the many hours he spent on the fields. He would comment on how farm work was a good stress reliever, and yet he would like to try different crops because he said he wanted a challenge.
Dad was a great people person, he loved to visit and he really enjoyed the company of people around him.
This character trait was evident in the many meetings he attended when he was trustee and secretary on the local school board for a number of years.
Dad also served as a Sunday School teacher in the Blfd . Reinland Mennonite Church for ten years.
Dad was ordained as minister February 9, 1969 in the Reinland Mennonite Church. He was very dedicated to this field of work that God had called him into. He officiated at 16 weddings, seven funerals and served as minister for exactly 34 years, His last message was February 9, 2003. After his health had been falling since early December 2002. His faith in God remained strong during the many hours he suffered without complaining. His patience and calm attitude towards his sickness was an encouragement to those that came to visit him. His keen sense of humor was also evident until the end.
Dad passed away very peacefully on May 23, 2003 at 7:45am, he reached the age of 71 years, 5months and 19 days.
Dad was predeceased by his parents John and Maria Fehr, one brother Jake C. Fehr, one sister Helen Eberling, parents-in-law Peter and Sara Elias, brother in-law Peter Elias and Bernie Elias.
He is survived by his wife Mary, son David (Nancy), two grandsons Tyler and Thomas of Haskett, daughter Sara (Dennis) of Morden and daughter Kathy of Rosengart. He is also survived by three brothers and four sisters, many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
