Katherine "Tien" Wiebe

1920 - 2003

Katherine Wiebe.jpgKatherine was born on June 30, 1920 in Winkler, MB to William and Anna Letkeman Miller.  She was the youngest of their 6 children.

On September 20, 1936 she married Jacob L. Wiebe.

On her 18th birthday she gave birth to a pair of identical twin boys, Howard and Laverne.

Tina, as we knew her, was a hard working, talented person.  An excellent cook and housekeeper as long as her health allowed.

After her husband Jacob died, she was lonely but being a resourceful person and with the help of others she managed well.

Katherine enjoyed making quilts and produced many a patch work quilt even after she was confined to her wheel chair.  She enjoyed playing old favorite hymns on her organ among other things.  She was as handy with a hammer as with pie pastry.  In January of 2000, the time had come that it was considered no longer safe to live alone in her house and so she moved to Salem Home, Winkler.

She was most appreciative of the care she received there and was continually praising the home and it's staff to all who came to visit her.  In Salem Home she enjoyed the chapel services and attended regularly.  The various other activities were also of interest.  Here also she had found a good friend she called Henry, and they spent many quiet hours just being together.

On Friday, September 19, 2000 she mentioned being particularly tired and was put to bed for a rest.  She remained there until she passed away on September 24, 2003 at 8:00pm.  It seemed she had simply become tired of living.  Here as always, she did it her way and in her own time.

Katherine was predeceased by her husband Jacob in 1975, sin Laverne in 1938, and son Howard in 1989.  She is survived by 1 grandson Richard Lane Wiebe and his wife Cindy, children Jocelyn and Brittany, 3 sisters-in-law, many friends, neighbors, nieces and nephews.

On her behalf, the family wishes to express sincere thanks to the personal care staff at Salem Home, and for the kindnesses shown to her by friends and neighbors over the many years she was house bound.

Funeral service was held Saturday September 27, 2003, 11:00am at Wiebe Funeral Chapel, Morden, Rev. David Friesen officiating.  Interment followed at the Winkler Cemetery.  Donations may be made to Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation.

Wiebe Funeral Chapel, Morden in care of arrangements.
