Eva mantey.jpgEva Mantey (nee Nikkel) of Morden, formerly of Plum Coulee, passed away on Wednesday June 26, 2002 at the Tabor Home, Morden.  She was born December 16, 1913 in Hochstadt near Altona to Erdman & Maria Nikkel.  In 1932 she joined the Sommerfelder Church and was baptized by Bishop Peter Toews.

She moved to Plum Coulee in 1947 and married Robert Mantey in June of 1949.  She belonged to the Rosenfeld sewing circle for many years and sang in the Rosenfeld choir for years.  At one time she curled and was also a 4-H leader.  She loved to garden and cook, puzzle and read. 

In April 2000, her and Bob moved to an apartment in Morden.  In January 2001 Eva went to live at the Tabor Home.  They were married for 53 years.

She is survived by her husband Robert Mantey of the Tabor Apts. Morden, daughter Norma & husband Don Wood of Morden, 2 granddaughters Christine & Louis Hoeppner of Morden, Brenda & Dwayne Morrow of Carman, 2 grandsons Robert & Lori Wood of Miami, Thomas Wood of Morden, 2 great grandsons Nikolas Wood and Dylan Hoeppner, 3 sisters Olga & George Rempel of B.C., Agatha Wiebe of Calgary, AB., Agnes & John Kornelson of Steinbach, sister-in-laws Anne Nikkel of Winnipeg, Agnes Nikkel of Steinbach, Gladys Nikkel of B.C., brother-in-law John Froese of Steinbach, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Erdman & Maria Nikkel, 8 brothers Ed, Pete, Henry, John, Jake, Herman, Dave, Abe, 9 sisters Tina, Annie, Elizabeth, Sara, Maria, Margaret, Helen, Suzie, Gertrude.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday July 2, 2002, 11:00am, Plum Coulee Bergthaler Mennonite Church, with Rev. Morris Vincent officiating.  Interment followed at the Plum Coulee Cemetery.  Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba Box 119 Winkler, Mb. R6W 4A4 or to the Tabor Home Memorial Fund 230 9th St. S. Morden, Mb. R6M 1Y3.
