Peter Z. Unrau
1920-2001
Peter Z. Unrau went on to his final reward at the age of 80 years, after a steady decline in his health, February 10, 2001 at the Morden Hospital.
Peter was born on the family farm in Rosenfeld, MB to Jacob & Anna Unrau. Though he wished to follow in his father’s steps as a farmer, it was not to be. Peter served Canada during WWII at a Conscientious Objectors camp in Banff, AB, honoring both his country and his beliefs.
In May of 1943 Peter married his childhood sweetheart, Margaretha Gerbrandt, and they shred their lives for more than 55 years. Peter had a wanderlust that led his family from east to west, finally settling back in his home province after years of travel. At one time Peter worked for Manitoba Hydro, operated a restaurant with Marge & the children, and finally worked as a driver for the Morden Hospital before retiring. Throughout his life Peter continued to have a love of the land and did seasonal work for local farmers right up until the late 1990’s.
In his later years, Peter served his friends and community in the Morden Friendship Center.
Peter was predeceased by his loving wife, Marge, in January of 1998 and leaves behind 4 children, their spouses, and 14 grandchildren. John & Georgina Unrau, Rick & Dee Unrau, Chris & Larry McMurray, Gerald & Traci Unrau.
Peter is survived by 1 sister Mary (George) Gerbrandt, and 2 brothers Jake (Lily) Unrau, and Dave (Annette) Unrau.
Funeral service was held Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, 2:00pm, Wiebe Funeral Chapel, Morden with Pastor Hugh Morrow officiating. Interment followed at Bergfeld Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Morden Friendship Center in Peter’s name.
