Katherina Olfert

1911-2001

Katherina Olfert was born on January 28th, 1911 to Jacob H. & Maria Olfert at Kronsgart. On June 30th, 1930, Katherina was baptized upon the confession of her faith by Bishop Henry Friesen at the Rosenbach Sommerfeld Church.

Katherina was the cook in the Olfert home until she was no longer able to serve in that capacity. The wonderful hospitality that was always shown at the Olfert’s is truly a credit to Katherine.

Parkinson’s Disease was a challenge in Katherine’s life whereby she became a sincere and humble example of patience. Salem Home was her home for the last 8 years, where her humour served to brighten many a situation. Katherine also loved to sing, and the family would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who sang with her, and all those who visited her. Katherine peacefully passed away in her room at Salem on January 4th, 2001, at 4:58pm, just 24 days shy of her 90th birthday.

Katherine was predeceased by parents, Jacob & Maria Olfert, brothers Jacob (in infancy), Peter, Gerhard, and Jacob, sisters Anna, Helen, and Maria, brother-in-law Emmanuel (Agnes) Kelln, and sister-in-law Helen (Peter) Olfert.

Katherine leaves to mourn; brother Herman Olfert, sister Agnes Kelln, and sister-in-law Helen (Jacob Olfert) Friesen, 8 nieces and nephews and their families.

Funeral service was held on Monday, January 8, 2001, 1:30pm, Winkler Reinland Mennonite Church with Bishop William Friesen & Rev. Jacob Elias officiating. Interment followed at the Rosenbach Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Reinland Mennonite Church Building Fund.
