Iolene Bernice Lechner (nee Forbes)

1912-2001

Peacefully, surrounded by family on December 19, 2001.

Bernice was born in Hartney, Manitoba. After earning her Teacher’s Certificate, she taught in the Hartney area before moving to Morden to continue her teaching career.

In Morden, Mom met and married the love of her life, Albert Lechner, who predeceased her in 1995.

Mom was active in many community groups including Kinettes, Rebecca Lodge, St. Pauls United Church and the Legion.

Mom’s love for music involved her in a dance band as a pianist, director of school operettas and music festivals. Her varied interests included reading history, crafts, traveling and bridge.

Left to cherish Mom’s memory are daughters Valerie and Terry Andrew, Judy and Terry Bourcier, Elaine and Caron Hopfner and Pat and Bob Ticknor. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Lori, Marek, Scott, Geoff, Todd, Jason, Aiden, Tim, Jill, Dave and Holly, and great grandchildren Kayla and Nicholas, sister Mildred Hoover, and special cousin Evelyn Brimacombe.

A celebration of Mom’s life was held at St. Pauls United Church in Morden on Saturday, December 22 at 11am, Jeri Bjornson officiating. Inurnment took place at the Chapel Cemetery, Morden.
