Irma “Viola” Jacobs (nee McKenzie)

1919-2001

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear wife, mothers and grandmother on Saturday, January 13, 2001 at the age of 81 years.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Roy; her son Jack Jacobs; her daughters, Maxine Lapple, husband Robert and their children Alicia, Rebecca and Adam; Darlene Baker, husband Bob and children Brent, Stephanie and Kristen; her sister Irene Deary and husband Austin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents John & Emily McKenzie and her sister Amelia Kinnaird.

Viola was born Jan. 28, 1919, the eldest child of John & Emily McKenzie. She grew up in the Shadeland District and attended Lorne School. Viola helped on the family farm until 1945 when her parents retired to Morden. She moved to Winnipeg where she worked until 1955 when she returned to Darlingford to marry Roy Jacobs on July 30, 1955. Roy & Viola lived on the family farm at Darlingford until they retired to Morden in the fall of 1997.

Vi’s life revolved around her family and the farm. She worked hard to make her family comfortable and happy and was always willing to help her children, grandchildren and neighbors. Throughout her health struggles over the last 5 years, Viola remained cheery, witty and never once complained. She accepted her physical limitations and was cooperative with everyone who assisted her. She was an inspiration to others with her strong will through difficult times and her dedication to her family.

Funeral services were held at Zion Calvin United Church, Darlingford, Mb. on Wed. January 17, 2001, 2:00pm with Rev. Jim Penhale officiating. Interment followed at the Darlingford Cemetery.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Viola Jacobs to the Heart & Stroke Fnd. 301-352 Donald St. Wpg. Mb. R3B 2H8 or the Canadian Diabetes Assoc. 102-310 Broadway St. Wpg. Mb. R3C 0S6.

It was hard to watch you suffer, even harder to say good-bye, but in our hearts you will always stay.

Card of Thanks

The family of Viola Jacobs would like to thank the staff of the Morden General Hospital and the staff of Health Sciences Centre; especially GA3 Ward and Stepdown Unit. We would also like to express our appreciation to the Morden Handi-Van and the Morden Ambulance for your care and assistance in transporting. Words are not enough to say thank-you to our homecare workers and nurses who looked after Vi at home. You are the glue that held us together and were there for Mom & Dad when their children could not be there. Each of you held a special place in Vi’s heart. Your compassion and commitment have never been taken for granted. Thank-you also to friends and family for the cards, flowers, food and phone calls that have been delivered to the house. Your thoughtfulness has made the past week much easier.

God Bless,

Roy Jacobs
