Henry D. Derksen
1912 - 2001

Henry D. Derksen was born on November 8, 1912, son of Peter Derksen and Katherina Derksen of Kleinstadt, Manitoba.  He was baptized in 1932 in the Sommerfelder Church at Kronsweide, Manitoba and on July 9, 1936 he married Sarah Thiessen, daughter of Aron A. Thiessen and Aganetha Wiebe.

The first few years of their married life they were living with and working for her parents.  Their first home was on 28-4-2 West, near Lowe Farm, where they remodeled the house, built a new barn, and a few other buildings.  In the spring of 1954, they sold the yard and moved back to 22-4-2 West, where they worked very hard to rebuild the farm yard.  The original barn was torn down and a new one built, also a new double garage was built.  In the fall of 1973, they sold their farm and retired, moving to Winkler in the spring of 1974.

They were blessed with six children: Caroline and Norman Buhr of Altona, Leona and Jake Klassen of Morris, Eddie and Carol Derksen of Plum Coulee, Emmy and Willie Penner of Winnipeg, Menno and Sadie Derksen of Winkler, and Darlene and Gerry Madison of Winnipeg, 13 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.

He is survived by his dearly beloved wife, two sons and four daughters, and their families, and his sister Mary Klassen.

He was predeceased by four brothers, Jacob, John, Peter and Abram.

Funeral service on Saturday December 1, 2001, 10:00am, at Winkler Sommerfelder Mennonite Church with Rev. Abe Wiebe officiating.  Interment at the Winkler Cemetery.

The family wishes to offer sincere thanks to the staff at Salem Home for their care and attention given to our Husband and Dad.
