William Fritz Baumgart

1913 – 2008

It is with love and great of sadness that we announce the passing of William Fritz Baumgart at the Salem Home in Winkler, MB on Friday May 9, 2008.  William was predeceased by his parents, Sophie Marie and Richard August Baumgart; his sister, Elizabeth Penner, brother, Eric Baumgart and grandson, Kelly Sawka.

William was born in Germany on August 28, 1913.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany.  William immigrated to Canada with his family in 1927 at the age of 14 years.  At age 32, he met and married Emma Figur of Morden, MB on December 5, 1945.  His career path took him to the farm north of Darlingford where he worked long hours to provide for his wife and his family of six children.  He retired from the farm and moved to Winkler, MB in October 1992.

His interests spanned from farming and fixing farm equipment, to gardening, reading, music and dancing.  His greatest pride and joy was his family.

He is lovingly missed by his wife, Emma; 4 daughters, Esther (Gordon) Sawka of Duncan, BC, Elaine (Arnold) Hundt of Steinbach, MB, Sharna Baumgart of Richmond, Indiana, Charlotte (Glen) Didyk of Anola, MB; 2 sons, Lloyd (Shyrrol) Baumgart of Morden, MB, Charles (Donni) Baumgart of Calgary, AB and 3 grandchildren, Kaleigh, Courtnay, Jonathan (Rachel) Baumgart all of Morden, MB.  He also leaves to mourn his passing his sister, Lottie Hildebrand of Cranbrook, BC and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for William was held on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winkler, MB with Rev. Alex Klages officiating.  Interment followed at Chapel Cemetery.
