Vernon Reynold Thiessen
1969 - 2008
Tragically
on Thursday, June 5, 2008 Vern Thiessen aged 38 years of Winkler, MB died in a
farm accident.
Vern was born on September 22, 1969 and raised on the farm in the Village of Schoenweise. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and wanted to be baptized but struggled hard with the need to speak in front of people. On June 7, 1992 he determined he wanted to do so and upon his confession of faith he was baptized in the Blumenorter Mennonite Church in Rosetown.
Vern was kind hearted and extremely sensitive to other people’s feelings. We saw this develop more and more as he yielded to the Spirit’s leading. He was meticulous and conscientious in the things he tackled. Some would have said he was a picky eater; instead he had simplified eating down to peanut butter sandwiches as a little boy and cheese burgers and coke as an a adult.
Vern’s love of mechanics lead him to own his own shop for 10 years and in the last years joined a farm team. He enjoyed building race cars and truck pull trucks. He also had a competitive spirit and enjoyed driving these vehicles. He entered a demolition derby because he said he needed to prove he could do it. Vern appreciated the opportunities that the farm offered to pursue some of these interests. He loved to come home to have supper with Mom and Dad and did so whenever he was able to.
Left to remember him are his Dad and Mom, Cornie C. and Helen (nee Falk) Thiessen of Winkler, 2 sisters, Sylv and Vic Janzen of Carman, and Bev Thiessen of Winnipeg; 3 brothers, Alvin and Carol, Harv and Helene, Gerald and Tina all of Winkler and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Viola and Elaine in infancy.
Funeral service was held on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 2:30 pm at Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church. Interment followed at Winkler Cemetery.
Vern we love you, we will miss you, but we celebrate with you that you fought the good fight, you finished the race, you in spite of everything, kept the faith, you received your crown and we know the angels are celebrating with you. We believe Vern’s challenge to us all is: are you ready to meet me at the finish line?
