Sara Blatz (nee Hamm)

1932 - 2008

On Thursday, June 12, 2008, Sara Blatz, aged 75 of Morden, MB passed away peacefully at Boundary Trails Health Centre.

Sara was born Oct. 26, 1932.  On Sept. 7, 1952 she married Peter Blatz in Blumenfeld, MB.  After several moves they settled in Morden in 1956.

While raising a family she also found time to work at several places including Pembina Poultry Packers and the Morden Vet Clinic.  Mom and dad loved travelling, and especially enjoyed their many trips to Mexico to visit family and friends.  Mom's hobbies included handwork, crocheting, gardening, puzzling and playing table games.  She also loved music, and was the Bare Yogi's #1 fan.  In her later years, mom and dad really enjoyed going for coffee with friends and family.  But what brought mom the greatest joy was when she could prepare a huge meal and have the whole family over to enjoy it.  She loved to watch and laugh along as her family enjoyed each other's company.  Mom wanted to make sure that all her children knew the Jesus that she is now rejoicing with.

Mom was a very hard working woman who took pride in keeping her house spotless.  Her stroke in 1994 limited her mobility, but her determination helped her overcome many obstacles.  She was able to accomplish more with her one good hand than many people with 2.  Mom's health slowly deteriorated in the last years and on April 30, 2008, mom was hospitalized when she was diagnosed with cancer.  She was able to enjoy one last day at home with her family on Mother's Day.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Peter Blatz of Morden; 2 daughters, Margaret and Abram Peters of Tigertown, TX, Rose Blatz of Morden; 6 sons, Cornie and Kathy of Winkler, John and Beverly of Morden, Dan and Eileen of Winkler, Abe Blatz of Morden, Jake and Darlene of Morden, Peter W. Blatz of Toronto, ON as well as 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren’ 1 sister and 4 brothers and their families; dad’s siblings and their families and special friends, Herb and Irene Klassen.

She was predeceased by 1 brother in infancy.

Funeral service was held on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Chortitz Old Colony Mennonite Church.  Interment followed at the Church Cemetery.

Thank you to everyone for your love, prayers, support, food, flowers and cards.  We would also like to express our appreciation to Dr. Dreyer and the staff on the medical ward.  Also, thank you to all the people who came to visit and minister to mom while she was in the hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sara’s memory to Boundary Trails Health Centre Palliative Care Box 2000 Winkler, MB R6W 1H8.
