Margaretha Sawatzky (nee Peters)
1910 – 2007
With
deep sadness, yet thankful heart, I announce the peaceful passing of my mother,
Mrs. Margaret Sawatzky (nee Peters) of Winkler formerly of Gnadenthal into the
loving arms of her Lord and Saviour on Monday, December 31, 2007 at 7:00 pm at
Boundary Trails Health Centre. She was 97 years, 6 days when the Lord called
her home. She desired to hear God’s call homeward and her wish was finally
fulfilled. God be praised.
Mom was born to David and Elizabeth (nee Wieler) Peters in the village of Nikoleithal, Ukraine and grew up in Gnadenthal, South Russia. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1930 and arrived in Gnadenthal, MB to start the family farm. In 1936, she married Frank G. Sawatzky and they had one son before dad died. That changed the circumstances of the rest of her life. She continued the small mixed farm for a few more years. She had many interests including gardening, flowers, sewing, poetry, singing and reading.
She leaves to mourn her passing her only son, Arthur of Winkler and 2 sisters, Susie and Peter Harms of Abbotsford, BC and Mary Fehr of Winnipeg; 2 sisters-in-law, Tina Peters (nee Fehr) and Kathy Peters (nee Kehler) and their families.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank G. Sawatzky in January of 1939; her parents; 4 sisters, Susie, Katherine, Elizabeth, Sara and 4 brothers, Abe, Jake, Dave and Frank.
Funeral service was held on Friday, January 4, 2008 at 11:00 am at Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church with Rev. James Peters and Rev. Menno Janzen officiating. Interment followed at Gnadenthal Cemetery.
Although we grieve, we do not sorrow without the eternal hope of being reunited with our loved ones in glory one day. His grace is sufficient.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to in Margaret’s memory to Children’s Camp International 300-571 Main St. Winkler, MB R6W 1E8.
May God’s mercy and love rest on us all.
Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler in care of arrangements.
