Olive Rannveig Gillis (nee Gillis)

1917 – 2007

On Thursday November 8, 2007 at Tabor Home in Morden, MB Olive Gillis aged 90 years passed away peacefully with her family by her side.

Olive was born on August 15, 1917 in the Icelandic community of 1-6 to Ragnar and Salla (nee Olafson) Gillis.

Arni and Olive farmed in the 1-6 area until 1960 when they moved to Morden.  Olive was a strong Icelandic woman with many talents.  Her family and friends were always first and foremost in her life.

She is lovingly remembered by her 2 daughters, Sigrid and Glen Hunt of Darlingford, Sally and Bob Gibb of Toronto, ON; 1 son, Robert and Kathy Gillis of Lockport; grandchildren, Rodney and Christine Hunt, Ryan and Dana Hunt, Scott and Jenny Gillis, Chad Gillis, Christy Gibb and husband, Matthew Mahoney, Matthew Gibb and Lexi Ohm; great grandchildren, Brock Hunt, Bryce Hunt, Matthew and Jenaya Hunt; 1 sister; 1 brother.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Arni Gillis in 2002.

Funeral service was held on Monday November 12, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Wiebe Funeral Chapel in Morden with Rev. Morris Vincent officiating.  Interment followed at 1-6 Icelandic Cemetery.

Donations may be made in Olive’s memory to either the 1-6 Community Hall Fund or the Icelandic Cemetery Fund.
