Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Boundary Trails Health Centre Leslie “Les” Melvin
Nield aged 89 years of Morden formerly of Windygates, MB passed away peacefully,
with his family by his side.
Les was born at Mowbray district and moved to the farm at Windygates where he attended school. He joined the R.C.A.F. and, served his country as an Aero Engine Mechanic on trainer aircraft during W.W. II at Rivers, MB.
In Oct 1945, Les and Bernice were married and resumed farming on the family farm. The family was blessed with two children. Dad did his best to see that we attended school, though many trips were made with team and sleigh through snowdrifts and all.
He enjoyed music, playing guitar and singing until he discovered the Omni Cord which he enjoyed playing with friends and with the Harmony Strings for a number of years.
Les and Bernice retired to Morden in 1980. At first they enjoyed a new home and then they took a suite in Elks Park Place in 1996. Les’s years were many. Poor health was a struggle many times, but his faith was strong which carried him through the difficult times. He was in Boundary Trails Health Centre for five weeks, during which time, the care of the Drs., nurses and all other staff was very considerate and caring. Dad took considerable delight in being able to remember the nurses by their first name.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Bernice (nee Finley) of Morden, 1 daughter, Sherry Wasslen of Morden; 1 son, Richard and Janice Nield of Morden and grandchildren Jamie and Burton Nield, Guy Wilcox (Danica), Ryan Nield (Jody), and two great-grandchildren, Kai and Taya Nield.
Leslie was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Victoria; 1brother, Neville in infancy and 1 sister, Jocelyn Ridley.
