Gerhard “George” W. Unrau

1915 – 2007

On Sunday July 29, 2007 at Salem Home in Winkler, George Unrau of Winkler, formerly of Neuenberg, MB aged 91 years went to his eternal rest.

Gerhard W. Unrau was born on October 3, 1915 and baptized upon confession of his faith at the Winkler Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in 1936.  He married Justina Dyck on July 6, 1941 and their union was blessed with 4 daughters and 6 sons.

He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Justina of Winkler; 2 daughters, Marina Peters of Winkler, Martha and Ike Elias of Hochfeld; 4 sons, Bill and Helen, Henry and Shirley, Ben and Lisa, Gerald and Audrey; 1 daughter-in-law, Mary Unrau, all of Neuenberg as well as 23 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Justina Hamm and Mary Peters; 1 brother, Abe Unrau.

He was predeceased by 2 sons, Ed at age 59 and Henry at age 2; 1 son-in-law, Nick Peters and 1 grandchild, Ricky Unrau in infancy. 

Funeral service was held on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Winkler Sommerfeld Mennonite Church with Rev. Art Wiebe officiating.  Interment took place at Neuenberg Cemetery. 

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the Evergreen staff at Salem Home and Pastor David Friesen for their wonderful care of Dad during his stay as well as to Pastor Art Wiebe, the ushers, song leaders, serving ladies, church custodians, soundman and to Wiebe Funeral Home and to all who have encouraged the Unrau family in any way.  May God bless you all.
