He leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife, Tina of Winkler; 3 daughters, Dorothy and John Peters of Steinbach, Carol and Vic Penner of Steinbach, Linda and Terry Penner of Winkler; 2 sons, Alfred and Arlene of Winkler, Randal and Sherry of Steinbach; 10 grandchildren, Jacquii and David DeMatteis, Andrea and Kelly Chichak, Matt and Myra Peters, Michael and Janel Peters, Dane Peters, Bud and Ginger Penner, Ryan Penner, Dustin Penner, Ashley Penner, Melissa Peters; 5 great grandchildren, Abbey, Emily and Rhett Peters, Brooklyn and Jackson Penner as well as 4 sisters, Margaret Sawatzky, Sarah Peters, Susie and Peter Harms, Mary and John Fehr.
He was predeceased by 1 son, Howard John in infancy; 1 granddaughter, Tara-Lynn; 2 sisters, Tina Paetkau, Elizabeth Peters and 3 brothers, Jack, Frank and Abe.
Dad was born on February 9, 1920 in Russia to David F. and Elizabeth (nee Wieler) Peters. The family immigrated to Canada when he was 9 years old. The family settled on a farm in Gnadenthal, MB. He was baptized on confession of his faith in 1944.
In September 10, 1944, David married Tina Fehr and they spent 62+ wonderful years together. Most of their married life was spent on a farm in Gnadenthal and in 1988, they retired to Winkler.
Dad loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing with his family and friends. Fishing and camping were very special times spent with mom as well.
We all enjoyed Dad’s sense of humour so much. He had a warm and caring heart and loved to spend time with each one of the grandchildren and great grandchildren. He often entertained by playing games (that he made up), singing, poetry and telling them stories. He loved and was proud of all of them. Dad was blessed with good health for 86 years and became ill only in this last year. He took his deteriorating health with grace and trust that the Lord would carry him thru. He often expressed his gratefulness at the gift of his salvation.
As a family, we feel blessed that God granted our Dad 87 years here on earth to share his life with all who loved and knew him.
We love you, Dad and are comforted knowing that you are safe in the arms of Jesus.
Funeral service was held on Saturday September 1, 2007 at 11:00 am at Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church. Interment followed at Gnadenthal Cemetery.
We would like to thank the nursing staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre for their excellent care of Dad. A special thank you to Dr. Blighnaut, Dr. Animie Reyneke and Dr. Woelk.
In lieu if flowers, donations may be made in Dave’s memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association 102-310 Broadway Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
