Mathilda “Tillie” Link
1929 - 2006
Mathilda
(Tillie) Link passed away on Monday June 12th at Boundary Trails
Health Centre, Morden in her 77th year.
She was the last remaining child of Gustav and Juliana Link and was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and seven sisters. Tillie lived all her life on the family homestead in the 1-6 District of Morden. She stayed on the farm, looking after her mother and continued to live in her community independently as long as she was able. She moved to the Tabor Apartments in September, 2004.
Over the years, her farm provided a place of respite and good times for her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Tillie was able to connect with the young members of her extended family and make them comfortable out on the family home farm. We all have wonderful memories of time spent with her in our heritage home.
Tillie was the family archive and the thread that held us all together. To learn anything at all, or to recall forgotten events, a visit with her would provide the needed information in great detail. Her memory of people, dates and events was outstanding. This remarkable ability stayed with her until the last few days of her life.
She was fortunate to have had good friends and neighbours and she often remarked on this fact. The neighbours were a comfort to her, they were her “community” and their friendship and support meant a lot to her. The family wishes to recognize Annie Olafson in particular for her kindness, she was so much an asset to Tillie, being a good friend and getting her around to the medical appointments and many shopping trips for these past two years.
Tillie leaves behind 18 nieces and nephews; 37 great nieces and nephews and 25 great-great nieces and nephews who will miss her.
Viewing will take place on Friday June 16th, 6 to 9 pm at Wiebe Funeral Chapel and funeral services will be held on Saturday June 17th at 2 pm at Zion Lutheran Church, Morden. Interment will follow at the German Cemetery in the 1-6 District.
If friends desire, donations in Tillie’s memory can be made to the Morden Area Foundation, 311 North Railway Street, Morden, R6M 1S9.
She was a kind person, steadfast in her faith. Rest in Peace.
