Lily Rose Kuchera Dushenko (nee Kochka)

1922 – 2006

On Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Tabor Home, Lily Rose Kuchera Dushenko (nee Kochka) aged 83 years of Morden, went to her eternal rest.

Lil was born in Lutz, Poland on June 5, 1922.  When she was 5 years old, her family moved to Earl Grey, Saskatchewan.  Later they moved to the Pembina Valley and began farming.

In 1940, Lil married Joe Kuchera and farmed in the 2-6 area.  They had 5 children together.  In 1958, Lil and her family moved to Morden.  She worked at Pembina Poultry Packers for many years and then at Morden Florists.

When Joe passed away at an early age, Lil decided to go to the Red River School of Nursing.  Later, she married Keith Dushenko.  She nursed at the Morden Hospital until her retirement.

When she could no longer live in her house, she moved to Legion House.  As of June 2004, Lil had been a resident of Tabor Home.

She leaves to mourn her passing her 4 daughters Marge and Bob Martens of Hillsboro, Oregon and their children Leslie, Allyson and Chad, Kevin and Zoe, Shayne, Carey and Natasha, Eleanor and Ted Stasiuk of Morden and their children Cori, Jodi, Angi and Gerhard, Georgie Rodgers of Morden and her children Leah and Mike, Elana, Megan and Kenneth, Joanne and Ron Griffiths of Calgary, AB and their children Kendra, Dossiter and Brock; 1 son Jim and Lori Kuchera of Ferintosh, AB and their children Samantha and Zachary.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph Kuchera (1971) and second husband Keith Dushenko (1992); 1 infant son, Kenneth John Kuchera (1958); her brother Edward and wife Grace Kochka; her sister Marge and husband John Uher.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul’s United Church with Doug Craig officiating.  Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery.
