Katherina Martens (nee Neudorf)
1916 – 2006

on Monday, August 28, 2006 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, our beloved mother,
grandmother and great grandmother, Katherina “Tena” Martens (nee Neudorf) aged
of 89 years of Winkler, MB went to her eternal rest.
Tena was born to Frank and Elizabeth (nee Giesbrecht) Neudorf on December 13, 1916 at the Bergman district in the Altona area. She had most of her schooling in the village of Reinland. Later, her parents moved to the Schoenweise area, where she worked at various places as a kitchen helper.
In 1935, mother joined the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in the Grossweide area north of Plum Coulee where she was baptized upon confession of her faith in Jesus Christ in Whom she always believed.
On November 3, 1935, she married Peter J. Martens in the Kronsweide Church near Lowe Farm and they were blessed with 4 children. Mother and dad lived on the farm in the Melba school district area north of Horndean until they moved to Winkler in November of 1984. Dad passed away October 27, 1988. They were just short of celebrating 53 years of marriage together.
She leaves to mourn her passing 1 daughter, Helena and Dan Thiessen of Lowe Farm; 3 sons, Peter and Margaret of Horndean, Edward and Tina, Edmond and Marilyn both of Winkler; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; 1 brother; 4 sisters-in-law; 2 brothers-in-law and their families.
Funeral service was held on Thursday, August 31, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Winkler Sommerfeld Mennonite Church with Rev. Abe Wiebe and Rev. Art Wiebe officiating. Interment followed at the Winkler Cemetery.
The family would like to thank all who came to visit mom in the hospital, especially Rev. Abe Wiebe and Rev. Art Wiebe and to everyone for the prayers and condolences offered. Special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre for the care they gave; the serving ladies for lunch and to Wiebe Funeral Home for the arrangements.
