rest.
She leaves to mourn her passing her beloved husband, Abram Fehr of Winkler; 3 daughters, Erma Fehr of Winkler, Elma Fehr of Winnipeg, Della Fehr of Winnipeg; 3 sons, Glen and wife, Pat of Rosetown, Garry and wife, Karla of Rosetown, Grant and wife, Glenda of Schanzenfeld; 4 grandchildren; 1 sister and 2 brothers.
She was predeceased by 1 sister and 2 brothers.
Helen was born September 3, 1928 in Neuhorst, MB to Cornelius K. and Helena (nee Heinrichs) Friesen. She was baptized upon confession of her faith in the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in Rudnerweide by Elder Peter A. Toews in 1949. On September 16, 1951, she married the love of her life, Abe Fehr. They were blessed with 55 years, 3 months and 2 days of marriage.
Shortly after they were married, mom was stricken with her 4th bout of rheumatic fever. She was bedridden for 3 months. Mom’s loving sister, Elma helped dad care foe her during her illness. At that time, the doctor advised mom and dad to wait a number of years before starting a family. They were also advised to have only 2 children but were blessed with 6 including a set of twins.
On June 9, 1992, mom suffered her 1st stroke. Even though she was affected physically, she maintained a positive, cheerful attitude. In the fall of 1996, mom had open heart surgery from which she recovered remarkably well. Three years later, she also had a hip replacement. In spite of all her continuing health issues, mom maintained her quiet steadfast faith in the Lord.
On Friday, December 15, 2006, mom suffered her 2nd major stroke. She remained in a coma for 3 days and then passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18 at 11:25 p.m. surrounded by her loving family. We will miss mom, but take comfort in knowing that we will meet again one day.
Funeral service was held on Friday, December 22, 2006 at 11:00 am at Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church with Rev. Ben Pauls officiating. Interment followed at the Winkler Cemetery.
