George Allan McElroy

1928 - 2006

It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of G. Allan McElroy age 78 years of Morden, MB formerly of Darlingford, MB on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Boundary Trails Health Centre.

He leaves to mourn his passing, 2 daughters, Jean and Dennis Penner of Treherne, Kathy and Bruce Perry of Winnipeg; 1 son, Ken McElroy of Darlingford; 4 grandchildren, Allison (David) Aitken, Derek Penner, Kendra McElroy and Sheena (David) VanEgmond; 4 great grandchildren, Kahlan, Hannah, Nathan, Emma and 2 sisters, Edith (Allan) Johnston, Helen (Dale) Ridley; brothers-in-law, Lawson and Lloyd Willett as well as many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joyce (nee Willett) McElroy in 1999; parents, Alvin and Mattie (nee Elwood) McElroy and 1 brother, Don McElroy.

Allan was a kind and gentle man whose family always came first.  He was always there when anyone needed him to lend a helping hand or fix something.  He loved visiting with his family and especially loved watching his great grandchildren.  He had a wonderful sense of humour and was always ready with a joke to share.  He love tinkering on old cars and would adopt any animal that crossed his path.  He worked hard all his life and continued to enjoy helping out on the farm with his son, Ken during his retirement years.

A memorial service was held at St. Paul’s United Church on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at 2:00 pm. with Jeanette Brigit officiating.  Interment followed at Darlingford Cemetery.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Boundary Trails Health Centre for their kindness and care.  A special thanks to dad’s neighbours for their thoughtfulness.
