Betty Irene Unger (nee Friesen)

1944 - 2006

On Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, after a lengthy illness, Betty Unger of Morden formerly of Crystal City went to her eternal rest.

Betty Unger (nee Friesen) was born on March 13, 1944 to Abram and Elizabeth Friesen of the village of Reinfeld. She received her elementary education in the village school and completed her education at the Winkler Collegiate Institute.

She was baptised on June 6, 1962 at the Ross Avenue Bergthaler Church in Winnipeg by Ernest Wiebe. She married Henry Unger on August 9, 1962 at the Winkler Bergthaler Church. Four sons and one daughter were born to this union.

In 1968, they moved to Crystal City where Henry had accepted a teaching position at Thomas Greenway Collegiate. They remained in the community for 34 years. Because of health issues, they made the difficult decision to leave the beloved community. In 2002, they relocated to Morden.

In 1972, they moved to the farm. Betty was an excellent gardener and enjoyed her flowers immensely. Betty took a keen interest in antiques and became very well informed in many areas, especially in glassware.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband Henry; her children, Stan and Shannon and her daughter Siobhan, David and Anita and their children Zoe and Ben, Allison and Gord and their sons Marcus and Thomas, Chris and Candace and their children Clarissa and Curtis, James; her mother; 3 sisters; 3 brothers and many relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her father, her oldest sister Kay Enns and brother-in-law John Enns.

We are saddened by her passing but happy that her suffering is over. We give thanks to God for her life. May she rest in peace.

Funeral service took place at Crystal City Mennonite Church on March 13, 2006 at 11:00 am with Pastor John Bergen and Pastor Harold Hildebrand Schlegel officiating. Interment followed at Neuenburg Cemetery.

If friends and family so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation, Box 1943 Winnipeg, MB  R3C 3R2.
