Muriel Deere
1922 - 2004
On
June 20, 2004, after a brief illness, Muriel Deere peacefully passed away in the
presence of her family at Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary.
Muriel Catherine Annie Buchanan was born September 8, 1922 in Morden, Manitoba. She spent her childhood on the Buchanan family farm, southwest of Morden, and attended Diamond School. In 1943 she married August Deere and they moved to Winnipeg and lived in the communities of Fort Rouge and Waverly Heights. In 2000 she moved to Calgary to be near her immediate family and enjoy more time with her grandchildren. Although she never returned to live in Morden, friends and extended family from the Morden area were always a large part of her social life and memories.
Following several years of raising her children Muriel began a career with Revenue Canada, retiring in 1987 after 18 years of service. She was a lifelong fan of the Blue Bombers, even after her move to Calgary.
Muriel was predeceased, in 1994, by her husband of 51 years, August. She is survived by sons, Ray and Jeff and daughters-in-law, Sandy and Lynn of Calgary. Grandchildren Owen (Kerri) of Wetaskiwin and Jeremy (Jeanette), Emily, Benjamin and Alison and great-grandson Matthew, all of Calgary.
A memorial service to celebrate Muriels's life was held on Friday June 25, 2004 at 2:00 pm at Wiebe Funeral Chapel in Morden. If you wish, make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (www.heartandstroke.ca or 1-888-473-4636) in Muriel's memory.
