Laura Florence Russell

1905 – 2002

On Friday, May 10, 2002 Laura Florence Russell went to be with her Heavenly Father. Her faith in God sustained her throughout her life, to her 97^th year.

Laura was born on March 21, 1905, to George and Nellie Compton, farmers near Darlingford, Manitoba. She grew up with 3 sisters; Lillian, Ella and Dorothy, and 3 brothers; Clarence, Roy and Cliff, all of whom are now deceased. Laura’s father was a member of the Manitoba Legislature from 1922 to 1927.

Laura married Jack Russell on September 25, 1940, and they have been married for 62 years. While farming for 57 years, they were a great team out in the fields, both driving tractors, trucks and combines. Laura blessed relatives and friends with wonderful means, often cooked on a wood stove. Laura and Jack spent many winters with sister Lillian, and Herb in Oxnard California, and took other trips to Arizona. A review of their photographs reflects the wonderful times they had in earlier years. Long Manitoba winters were sometimes spent doing crafts such as plaster wall plaques, and crocheting.

Laura will be sadly missed by Jack, and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Wiebe Funeral Chapel in Morden at 11:00am. Interment followed at Miami Cemetery.
