years, of Morden, MB, after a brief illness.
Born in Winnipeg, July 9, 1911 to John Lawrie, and Nellie Mae Clarke, he grew up and was educated there. He lived there almost all of his life, until he went to Morden in 1952, when he took the job of manager at the Canadian Canner's plant, where he worked for 25 years. He has resided in Morden with his family ever since.
He was predeceased by his parents, by his beloved wife Joyce, and by his sisters Bessie (Howard Shiels), Jean (the late Art Warren), Irene (the late Bill Garnett), Roberta (Bill Daman) and Norma (the late Mickey McGuire, and the late Erik Lawrence).
He leaves to mourn his daughter Sharon and her husband Ken Yates of St. Luk, Quebec, and his son Bill of Morden, 5 grandchildren, Chris, Dan, and Ted Yates of Montreal, Quebec, Kelly Cumming of Winnipeg, and Keith Cumming of Waterloo, ON; sister Bernice Johnstone, sisters-in-law Doris Stukley and Louise Garnett, brothers-in-law Harold Shiels all of Winnipeg, sister-in-law Sybil Allan of Perth, ON; and brother-in-law Bill Daman of B.C. many friends, especially Scortch and Jeanette Sawatzky, Bill and Liz Cumming, Willie and Margaret Hiebert and many nieces and nephews.
He was always involved in the community, was a member of St. Thomas Anglican Church, served on the vestry and as rector's warden for many years. He worked tirelessly for many years for the ARC (now ACL) and was a Mason, recently receiving his 50 year pin.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, curling, golf, cribbage and crossword puzzles. He loved Bobbie Burns, Scottish Music (especially the bagpipes), travel and reading anything and everything (especially history), most of all, though, he loved his family and friends and was a kind, loving, generous and very witty father, grandfather, and friend.
Memorial Service took place Friday October 10, 2:00pm at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Morden. Ash interment followed at the Chapel Cemetery, Morden.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Jeanne Baker and Yvonne Stoesz and all the staff at the Tabor Home.
Gratitude and thanks also to Dr. Jackson, Dr. Botha, Cathy, Candace, Michelle and all of the nurses and staff on the medical floor at the Boundary Trails Health Centre.
