John Fehr
1917 – 2002
John
Fehr was born to Isaac and Barbara Fehr on November 20, 1917 at their home in
Kronsthal, Manitoba.
He was baptized upon confession of faith on May 30, 1939 at the Sommerfeld Church. He later transferred to the Altona Bergthaler Church, and remained a member there until his passing.
On October 28, 1956, he was united to marriage to Eva Heppner. They shared 45 and a half years of love and marriage. With this union they had 2 sons, Melvin and Ken. John loved to farm. He, with 3 brothers and 3 friends formed Border Potato Company in 1968. From this company he leaves to mourn a close friend, Bill Siemens and a loving brother Abe. John was a hard worker, he believed whatever you were going to do today, should have been done yesterday. John didn’t believe in wasting a morning. By the time most people would be waking up, he already had scouted every field.
John suffered a stroke in 1978 which left his right side paralyzed. He did recover somewhat after his stroke, and was able to walk again. Then in 1988, he broke his hip. He again, with determination was able to walk again. His walking began to deteriorate and became wheelchair bound.
In 1997, he made a move to Winkler, where he and his wife Eva resided at Crocus.
In June 2001 he had a heart attack, and was hospitalized until his move to Salem Home in December of 2001. His health began to make living difficult, and peacefully went to meet the Lord on April 21, 2002 at 12:35 a.m. in his bed at Salem.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife Eva, 2 sons, Melvin and wife Lynette and 3 grandsons, Brent, Derek and Mitchell. Son Ken, and wife Eleanor and 3 granddaughters, Karissa, Dayna and Kelly.
He also leaves to mourn 3 brothers and 5 sisters, many nieces and nephews, and many friends.
John was predeceased by his parents, 5 brothers and 1 sister.
John is now resting in Heaven, where he has been waiting to go for a long time. He will be sadly missed by all whose lives were touched by him. May he rest in peace.
Funeral service was held on Thursday, April 25, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church, with Rev. John P. Klassen and Rev. Menno Janzen officiating. Interment followed at the Winkler Cemetery. Donations may be made to Salem Foundation Inc. or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
