Jacob Paul Hiebert
1918 - 2002
Jacob Paul Hiebert, age 83 years of Winkler, passed away
peacefully at his home April 1, 2002, after a long illness and constant
struggle.
Born December 28, 1918 in Bloomfield district, he was predeceased by his parents Peter and Anna, and one sister Linda.
He will be sadly missed and always remembered by his wife Elsie, daughter Marilyn and husband William MacKay of Winnipeg, son James and wife Jacqueline Hiebert of Winnipeg, sister Esther and husband George Wiebe of Winnipeg, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jake and his wife Elsie (nee Warkentin) farmed in the Plum Coulee district. In 1957 they moved from the farm to the town of Plum Coulee, and in Christmas of 1959, the family moved into their new home in Winkler.
Jake continued to farm, but his interest in cars led him into full time salesmanship, first in cars and later in securities and insurance. With his warm and friendly personality, Jake was a natural salesman. His love of cars gradually developed into a collection of antique automobiles, mainly Lincoln Continentals.
One of Jake's greatest attributes was his generosity. It gave him pleasure to be able to give to others. Jake also loved to share his stories. He was always ready with a joke, a story, or a memory from long ago.
Funeral service was held Friday April 5, 2002, 2:00pm at Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church, Pastor Ted Goossen & James Hiebert (son) officiating. Interment followed at the Bloomfield Rosewell Cemetery, northwest of Plum Coulee. Donations may be made to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan available at the church.
Wiebe Funeral Home Winkler in care of arrangements.
