Jacob Banman
1920 – 2005
On
Monday, June 13, 2005, Jacob Banman, age 85 at the Boundary Trails Hospital went
to his new home in glory.
Jacob Banman was born on February 13, 1920 in the Altona District to Jacob and Katherine Banman. He is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Banman and one brother, Abe (Mary) Banman.
He was predeceased by 1 sister, Katherine Elias and 3 brothers, John Banman, Isaac Banman and Frank Banman.
Jake married his sweetheart, Mary (nee Harder) of Haskett, Manitoba on April 16, 1944. Their marriage was blessed with 4 children, Henry (Anne) Banman of Edmonton, Anne (John) Hiebert of Winnipeg, Peter Banman of Edmonton and David Banman of Morden; grandchildren, Wendy (David), Chad (Nasreen), Cameron (Jodie), Geoff (Selena), Ryan (Pat), Kelly, Keith, Carl, Cheyna, Destiny, Andrew and Bryon as well as 7 great grandchildren.
Jake’s love for the Lord was evident by his commitment to tithing, missions and service in the local church of Reinland and Winkler. He served his community in Rosengart as school trustee for many years.
His love for the land kept him in farming through good and hard times till retirement. Jake was also a carpenter assisting neighbors and friends and building a number of custom homes.
Jake delighted in walking through the fields and taking his family on Sunday afternoons to show them his prize crops.
Dad forever touches our hearts and brings a smile to us all as we remember his enthusiasm for golfing and sports accompanied by his jovial bouncy sense of humour. His kids were also the best at everything in his eyes. He bragged about his family to his coffee buddies and friends. He also thought he was pretty good himself and rather handsome!
Jake, dad, grandpa and great grandpa leaves a Christian legacy to his kids and family who will follow in his faith and pass it on to their children.
We celebrate his life and are very thankful to the Lord for blessing us with his long life. He will be missed.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2005 at 10:30 am at the EMM Church, 600 Southview Dr. in Winkler. Public viewing will be on Wednesday, June 15 at Wiebe Funeral Home from 1:00-8:00 pm and at the church prior to the service. Interment will be held at Haskett Cemetery after lunch is served.
