Jacob I. Bergmann (Jake)
1931 – 2002
Jake
was born on February 11, 1931 at New Reinfeld, just east of Winkler, MB to Isaac
and Anna (Derksen) Bergmann.
Jake is survived by his wife Erna of Morden, three sons; Richard & Senta Bergmann, Brooke, Mitchell, Cale & Ariel of Morden, MB; Terrance & Shelley Bergmann, Joshua, Katrina & Caleb of Cartier, MB; Robert & Julie Bergmann, Kara & Bailee of Winnipeg, MB. He is also survived by 2 brothers; Peter & Casey Bergmann of Kelowna, BC; Tony & Alma Bergmann of Beausejour, MB; 4 sisters; Anne Colert of Kelowna, BC; Helen & Abe (Chuck) Friesen of Morden, MB; Kathy & Walter Kehler of Winnipeg, MB; Margaret & Neil Reimer of Kenya, Africa. Also, so sisters-in-law; Midge Bergmann of Morden and Bjorg Bergmann of Revelstoke, BC, and many nieces and nephews. Jake was predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers in infancy, brother’s Ike, Henry (Harry) and Abe.
Jake was a humble man with the heart of a servant and the love of God. He loved and accepted people for who they were and was never judgmental. Those who knew Jake would remember him sitting on his driveway soaking up the sunshine. He always had an ear to listen and a heart full of compassion. At the center of his heart were his grandchildren.
Jake loved to be physically active and enjoyed the outdoors. Three years ago, due to surgical complications, he was left a paraplegic. His testimony never wavered despite the pain he endured. He never complained and was never angry. If anything, he was frustrated because he could no longer help others the way he used to.
Jake will be greatly missed but we will all hold a piece of him in our hearts.
Funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at 2:00pm at the Bergthaler Church of Morden with Pastor Rick Neufeld officiating. Interment followed at the Southside Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend sincere tanks to the Home Care people that helped take care of Jake at home and the Doctor and staff of Boundary Trails Health Centre for their excellent care that they provided throughout the years. Also, thanks to our friends who have blessed us with food and upheld us in prayer. Thank you to those who participated at the service and those that served us lunch.
