Henry P. Berg
1914 – 2002
On
Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at the Boundary Trails Health Centre, Henry P. Berg,
age 88, of Morden, went to his eternal rest.
He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife Gladys (nee Esau); daughter Patricia Lohr of Winnipeg; 2 sons Richard and Inez berg of Ottawa, ON, and children Dorion and Julia; Dr. Terry Berg of Winnipeg, daughter-in-law Patricia Berg of Winnipeg and children Rachel and Josh; 2 sisters Justine and Abram K. Braun of Winnipeg; Sadie and Eddy Braun of Red Deer, AB; 2 brothers Peter and Anne Berg of Morden; John and Judith Berg of Vancouver, BC; and families.
Henry was a man of steadfast faith in God; a good and faithful servant of Jesus Christ, his Lord and Saviour. His tireless work was evident in his career as farmer and builder, then as a foreman in numerous construction projects including Altona, Winkler, Morden and Carman Collegiates. Later he became the building superintendent for Frontier School Division and traveled extensively through northern Manitoba, allowing him to enjoy his love of flying. He never really retired, going on to work as building inspector for Tache Municipality. Of course, the real expression of his love for his family and friends was shown as he helped with their building projects and filled their homes with hand crafted furniture. His love of music, reflecting his love of God, was witnessed by his leadership in church choirs, the Hochstadt (Gospel) Quartet (an association that lasted over sixty years), and until recently in Tabor, Salem and Eden Homes. Hunting and fishing provided many opportunities to spend time with family and friends in nature. But, it was his untiring loving devotion to his wife, Gladys, and the love, care and daily prayers for his family (and many others in his life) for which he would want to be remembered. Unable to pursue his creative physical work in the last sixteen months, he devoted his time to handwriting his gleanings from scripture and reflections on the faith that sustained him to the end. Without complaining of his pain and increasing incapacity, he offered his thanks and prayers for all who comforted him in this final chapter of his life, especially his family, his doctor (Bob Menzies) and the nursing staff of the Morden Clinic and Boundary Trails Health Centre.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, October 19, 2002 1:30pm Morden Bergthaler Mennonite Church, with Rev. Rick Neufeld, Rev, Herman Kuhl and Rev. Dan Koop officiating. Interment followed at Rosenfeld Cemetery.
Wiebe Funeral Chapel, Morden in care of arrangements.
