Helena Friesen

1932 – 2005

On Saturday evening, December 10, 2005 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Helena Friesen (nee Bergmann), aged 73 of Morden, MB formerly of the Dunston Community, passed away peacefully into the waiting arms of God.

Left to cherish her memory are her son David, daughter-in-law Wendy, her grandchildren Nathan, Matthew and Alison together with her 2 brothers, Peter and Tony and 3 sisters, Anne (Colert), Katharine (Kehler) and Margaret (Reimer).

Helen was predeceased by her husband Abram (2003), her children Lorraine, Mark, Kenneth and Helena, her parents Isaac and Anna, and her brothers Isaac, Henry, Jake and Abram.

Helen was born on October 2, 1932 in Winkler (New Reinfeld).  Her family moved to a farm just outside Morden when she was 7 years old.   In 1959, she married Abram K. Friesen and moved to a farm in the Dunston District north of Morden.  Together they raised a wonderful family of 5 children.  A tragic accident in 1981 took the lives of 4 of her children and in 2003 she lost her dear husband.

Despite all her hardships, Helen enjoyed life.  There was rarely a time when you couldn’t see a smile on her face.  Throughout her life, her cheerfulness and kindness knew no bounds.  No matter what she had to experience, her outlook was always bright and hopeful.

The family would like to thank all those who visited, supported and shared their love and memories of Helen during her last days on this earth.  We all know she has gone on to a much better place.

Funeral services for Helen Friesen were held on Monday, December 19th at 2:00 p.m. at Westside Community Church in Morden with Rev. Morris Vincent officiating.  Interment took place at the Dunston Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba Box 119 Winkler, MB R6W 4A4 or the Kidney Foundation Manitoba Branch 730 Taylor Ave. Winnipeg, MB R3G 1K7.
