Frederick Samuel Westwood

1915 - 2002

With wonderful memories, and many tears, we say goodbye to our cherished husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Tuesday June 11, 2002 at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg.

Fred was born in Roblin, Mb. in 1915.  He graduated from Roblin High School and obtained his Bachelor of Arts from United College in Winnipeg.  Fred continued his education at the University of Manitoba receiving his Bachelor of Laws in 1941.

During World War II, Fred served in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps as a Captain, where he received many commendations.

On his return to Canada, Fred built a law practice in Morden, where he continued to practice with dedication and professionalism for 45 years.

Fred served his community throughout his life.  He was a president of the Morden Kinsmen Club, president of the Morden Chamber of Commerce, director of the Manitoba Heart Foundation, president of the Morden Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, Worshipful Master of the Morden Masonic Lodge, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba, and a founding member of the Morden and District Foundation.

Fred was an active member of St. Paul's United in Morden and Sturgeon Creek United in Winnipeg.

Fred is lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty years, Aileen, his children Jim Westwood of Cranbook, B.C.; Marjorie & husband Ken Grower of Winnipeg; his grandchildren Paul, Joanne and Ainsley, his niece and nephews, cousins and their families, and his sister-in-law Sheila.  He was predeceased by his two brothers Bill and Howard Westwood.

The Westwood & Grower family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of the Intensive Care Unit of the Grace Hospital and to their many friends in Morden, Winnipeg and those at their home at Fairmont Woods who have provided both their support and their prayers.

A celebration of Fred's life was held at St. Paul's United Church, 353 Thornhill Street, Morden, on Friday June 14, 2002, 2:00pm.  Ash interment followed at Hillside Cemetery, Morden.

In lieu of flowers, Fred's family asks that donations be made to St. Paul's United Church in Morden, Sturgeon Creek United Church in Winnipeg or the Morden and District Foundation.
