Erna Guenther

(nee Hooge)

May 21, 1910 - September 5, 2004

Peacefully, on September 5, 2004 at the age of 94 our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home of Winnipeg. 

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Jacob A. Guenther, son, Morley, and grand daughter, Mona.                 

She is survived by her three sons, Larry (Fawnie) of Vernon, Ray (Verna) of Winnipeg, Roy of Vancouver, two daughters, Emily (Peter) Dyck of Gimli, Carol (Doug) Jackson of Winnipeg, 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, brother Menno of Clearbrook B.C., and sister Lillian, of Saskatoon.                                                         

Erna was born to the J.B. Hooge’s of Plum Coulee in 1910. She received her education in Winkler and spent most of her life in that community. She was well known for her creativity and teaching of sewing. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and serving in the Mennonite Brethren Church. Her final years were spent in Winnipeg.

Funeral service was held at the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church on Saturday, September 11, 2004 at 1:00pm. Interment followed at Winkler Cemetery.
